Friends and Change

by mikebresee on January 5, 2010

At the behest of my friend Scott Tate I am writing you today to say what?

Well, a few things actually. First off – my gratitude in having friends and family like Scott in my life is a HUGE blessing. We’ve all heard of energy vampires, well Scott at www.choosetostaywell.com is someone who infuses energy into you with his presence. He’s a fitness freak, nutrition freak and general all around health and wellness geek. For an old guy like me, his passion is so powerful that you can’t help but move forward. So here is my first post of 2010…so far so good :-)

Secondly – I feel like I am in transition. I originally  started this site as a vehicle for my thoughts but given that I haven’t posted in some time – I mustn’t be thinking much! Actually, the opposite has been happening. I am, as I said, in transition. And that transition is about money. Both my relationship to it, and the necessity of it in general. I absolutely hate having to work just to pay the bills. It is such a fruitless exercise, this merry-go-round called capitalism. Maybe I have been a fan of too many Michael Moore movies, or have been to caught up in Peter Joseph’s Zeitgeist Movement but, this rat in a cage feeling has been with me for 20+ years. I just thought I was lazy. It turns out I am, but…I have long been questioning the civil part of our civilization and have found it wanting.

Thirdly – we are officially here in a new decade. The “aught” decade is gone and dead. Thank you – passage of time. I will be 48 later this month and consequently the next decade is of serious importance for me. Not just because I am approaching old age but that there is so much to do. It’s terrible to feel like you are finally getting close to figuring out what you want to do with your life at this stage in life. When most friends are planning their retirement for this coming decade, I am filled with thoughts of change and how to best accommodate these changes into my life.

That’s it for now – more to come as I figure things out. My wish for everyone is that this next decade actually embraces the change that is need on this planet. It can happen…one moment at a time, one word at a time by just one person. Are you up for the challenge? I am. I need to be. I have to be. The status quo in unacceptable and I don’t want to be part of that anymore.

Mike

Mike, so glad you took up the challenge!
We are all in transition I hope, always searching to enjoy each day to its fullest, each moment to its fullest and improving on yesterday.
We all stumble at times, getting distracted by the ether, but as Vince Lombardi intones, its all about how you get up after you fall.
My goal is to spread the gospel of healthy living and the fun part in my mission comes after meeting people like Mike and seeing the beautiful interconnectedness of most peoples missions.
Whether your goal is to make more money at work, have more cash for living, recover from or not get diseases and disorders and generally ‘live the good life’ the steps are the same.
Drop your ego off for a break as often as you can. Actually LIVE and PLAY in your mind and body. Eat real live food and talk to people, touch people, love people and start with yourself.
Thanks for stepping up Mike, thanks for the kick in the ass, thanks for feeling the love… high five brother!

Scott
